On the Future of Documentary Filmmaking
What does the future hold for documentary filmmaking? During this lecture, we will gain a perspective on the condition of the documentary field. World-renowned guests will talk about the future of documentary filmmakers and producers. The lecture will be addressed primarily to young filmmakers at the beginning of their careers and will provide a platform for exchange of experience between different generations of filmmakers.

Thom Powers
Best Polish Film Award Competition juror.
He is the documentary programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival and host of the podcast Pure Nonfiction. He spent 12 years as the founding artistic director of New York's documentary festival DOC NYC and currently serves as its director of special projects. He's served on several festival juries in Cannes, Copenhagen, Tehran, Sao Paolo, Tel Aviv, and elsewhere.
Laura van Halsema
Best Polish Film Award Competition juror.
She has a MA degree in American Studies from the University of Amsterdam. She has been working for IDFA since 2002 where for many years, she developed and curated focus programs on several elements of documentary film art. The focuses ranged from the purely artistic aspects of filmmaking to investigations of complex questions ranging from individualism to global politics, the role of media and democracy. As senior programmer she is part of the selection committee of the main competition, as well as responsible for the focus programs and talks program.
Kim Christiansen
Executive Producer - Documentaries & Co-productions - DR Sales. Master's degree in Film and Law from the University of Copenhagen. Worked with international documentary (selling, buying, commissioning, and co-prod.) for the last +20 years. Previous Head of Sales at TV 2 WORLD and Head of Industry at CPH:DOX (2012 & 2013) Currently: Overseeing all our documentary films for the international market mainly from independent producers from the Nordic region but also from the US, UK, Germany, as well as helping the producers with getting their films financed.
