Over 150,000 children and adolescents from Ukraine have joined the Polish education system this year. Schools are bursting at the seams, there is a shortage of teachers and classrooms. The education of Ukrainian children is a huge challenge for local authorities and, above all, for teachers. What difficulties do they face, and how do they cope? How to provide support and be a good teacher when confronted with war trauma? In the present-day Polish education system, afflicted by teachers' strikes, low pay, COVID disruptions and war, is it even possible to act like Young Plato’s protagonist, Mr McArevey – a visionary headmaster of a school in post-conflict Belfast? This film charts the dream of Headmaster Kevin McArevey and his dedicated team, illustrating how critical thinking and pastoral care can empower and encourage children to see beyond the boundaries and limitations of their community.
