Eric Hynes is Curator of Film at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, where he oversees the annual First Look Festival. He is also a longtime critic and journalist and writes a column on the art of nonfiction, previously for Film Comment magazine and now for Reverse Shot, where he has been a staff writer since 2003. Other outlets have included the New York Times, the Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Slate, New York magazine, Sight & Sound, Cinema Scope, and the Village Voice. From 2016-2018 he was the Writer in Residence at the Sundance Institute Documentary Edit and Story Lab, and has served on numerous film festival juries including Sundance, SXSW, Cinema du Reel, Sheffield, DokuFest, If Istanbul, Big Sky, and Full Frame.
