Main Competition for the Grand Prix Bank Millennium Award juror and "How to Survive a Pandemic" director.
Born in 1959, the American director was nominated for an Oscar® in 2013 for his debut film ‘How to Survive a Plague', for which he received a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination. In 2020 we screened his shocking masterpiece 'Welcome to Chechnya', which received as many as three awards with us: The Grand Prix of Lower Silesia, the Award of the President of the City of Gdynia and the Amnesty International Poland Award (the film previously received the Amnesty International Award at the Berlinale). France is also a New York Times bestselling author and an award-winning investigative journalist. This year we are showing his latest film (and the result of his investigation) out of competition: 'How to Survive a Pandemic'. France was for many years the editor of "Newsweek" and has also published in "New York" magazine, "New Yorker", "The New York Times Magazine" and "GQ".
