Debate: Who Owns the Art?

Can art be held hostage in armed and political conflict? Who should take custody of it and do they have the right to do so? Does preservation explain looting? Tomasz Szerszeń and prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska will discuss the question of art’s identity and belonging.

Guests:

Tomasz Szerszeń – visual artist, photographer, anthropologist and art researcher. He holds a degree in photography from the Łódź Film School and in Interdisciplinary Individual Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Warsaw.

Prof. dr hab. Małgorzata Omilanowska – Polish art historian, professor of humanities. Under-secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2012–2014, Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2014–2015.

Moderator:

Monika Krajewska – journalist at Fakty TVN. For over 10 years she has been reporting on global events as a foreign affairs reporter. Creator and host of “Artkompas” on TVN24 GO, a program dedicated to art.
