May 18 | Wednesday | 8:00 p.m. | Światowid cinema
Screening of the film YOUNG PLATO followed by the Meeting With a Philosopher led by prof. Dariusz Kubok
The film's protagonist – an Elvis Presley aficionado and passionate headmaster of a Catholic boys' school in one of Northern Ireland's most dangerous neighbourhoods – teaches his pupils how to navigate their feelings as they confront the aftermath of a years-long conflict. He draws on the invaluable wisdom of the ancient Greeks to help the children cope with trauma and think outside the box.
Inspired by the film and its protagonist, together with professor Dariusz Kubok, director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Silesia, we will talk about the role of philosophy in our lives and its practical dimensions in the context of everyday life.
