Decasia. A meeting with Bill Morrison

This year the festival audience will have a chance to discover a broad retrospective of Bill Morrison's work.

After the presentation of the block featuring probably his most appreciated work – “Decasia”, included in the National Film Registry of the US Library of Congress as cultural heritage of the United States, the director will talk about the beginnings of his artistic path and the parallels he has drawn between the dying film stock, the transience of human existence and the cinema as a time machine that preserves the images of the portrayed people for future generations. He will answer questions concerning the role of film archiving and preservation in saving the cinema history, and the process of constructing meanings within creative editing procedures based on the use of visual materials from the past.

Guest:

Bill Morrison – a director who consistently creates films based on archival footage. His works are part of the permanent collections of the Walker Art Center, EYE Film Institute and MoMA and have been shown around the world, including the Sundance FF and the Tate Modern.

Moderator:

dr Gabriela Sitek – curator of the Bill Morrison retrospective at the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity, researcher of found footage films.
