Prologue of 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival. 6-7 May in Bydgoszcz

Prologue, 6-7 May

club Mózg , admission free

How do we build relationships in these difficult times? What connects us? What divides us? "Between us" is the slogan of this year's prologue preceding the Bydgoszcz Annex to the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival. The programme includes two exceptional Polish films awarded at the previous edition of the festival (Bucolic, The Balcony Movie).

Friday, the 6th of May, at 19.00, Mózg

‘BUCOLIC’ dir. by Karol Pałka / Poland / 2021 / 70 min.

Danusia and her daughter Basia live somewhere on the edge of the world, according to the rhythm and laws of nature, among animals and the spirits of the dead. Their enclave gives them peace and security, but also makes them long for contact with other people. ‘Bucolic’ is a parable about people living differently and a sensitive observation, which gives rise to curiosity and an attempt to get closer.

Saturday, 7th May, at 18.00, Mózg

‘THE BALCONY MOVIE’ dir. by Paweł Łoziński / Poland / 2021 / 100 min.

Paweł Łoziński, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, has gathered a mosaic of human stories by talking to passers-by from his own balcony of a tenement house in Warsaw's Saska Kępa district. The balcony film surprises and engages, it is alternately cheerful and reflective. Łoziński is curious about his interlocutors, and they thank him with their most intimate stories. His characters carry riddles and mysteries, and can also surprise. The director spent 165 shooting days on his balcony  over 2.5 years. He met over 2000 interviewees. From these meetings under his secular confessional, a film about ourselves was created - in ‘The Balcony Movie’ each of us can see ourselves as in a mirror.

Documentary films are supposed to present a fragment of reality, which is subject to the least possible interference on the part of the director. In improvised performances we create a story spontaneously, without a script, and the audience gives us suggestions for scenes. In both these matters there is a lot of truth and a lot of emotion. It is said that we live to experience. We encourage you to experience an improvised performance.
